Anna Burgess Royce was our Grandmother's Aunt. This is one of my favorite poems that she wrote on Feb. 19, 1933...
The Doughnut Box
When Grandma’s grandma was a child,
Oh, very long ago,
They had a wooden doughnut box,
(My Grandma told me so)
And every week a doughnut man
Would come from out of town
To make, in all the homes about,
Great doughnuts crisp and brown.
He’d always fill the wooden box
Below the pantry shelf,
And Grandma, when he went away,
Would go and help herself.
